Reinstalling Windows XP Pro after upgrades

“ I have a June 2006 Windows XP Pro (WXPP) with SP2 Version 2002 SP3 build 2600
installed on my system. Somehow I picked up some viruses, which took me about
2 weeks to remove using AVG Internet Security V8, Spybot SD ver. 1.6.0,
Malwarebytes v. 1.28, and RemoveIt Pro Enterprise v.4. I am not sure that
they are totally removed yet, but I am trusting my antivirus/spyware/malware
programs to catch them on future scans.

There are still some corrupted WXPP files that need to be replaced. When I
insert my WXPP disk in my drive, I get the following message: "Setup cannot
continue because the version of Windows on your computer is newer than the
version on the Cd." Also the message gives states: "To erase the newer
version and install the older version, restart the computer, boot from this
CD, and follow the instructions for a new installation."

Obviously, I do not wish to reinstall WXPP, and have to reinstall all of my
programs and the settings again, all I want to do is to repair the present
installation. I am not proficient enough to run the DOS command line repair
console to search and replace the corrupted files.

What can I do to avoid having to do a new install. If I am forced to do the
new install, I suppose the best route to take would be to reformat my C:
drive and do a clean install.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Because you now have SP3 on your computer and the CD contains SP2
version files, you'll need to make a slipstreamed SP3 CD. This is
easily done with the very nifty tool Nlite 1 4.9.1 and it is free.
Once you use nlite to make an SP3 CD, you can burn it to a blank CD
and when it asks for files that are damaged to be replaced, the
slipstreamed SP3 CD will have the newest files for you and not
complain that the files are old.
