I formatted the C drive on number one hard drive. I stored my back up on a
physically seperate hard drive in rthe same PC. I was able to restore all my
files from the seperate hard drive, so it was ok at this point. I shut the
PC down over night. When I startet up this am, the desktop was blank. On
restart the desktop came back, but when I tried to get information from the
seperate hard drive, a message came up asking if I want to format it. All
indication are that it is a RAW file. All I can think of is that the
partiton got damaged. Is there some way I can recover or repair the
partition?

prob not if it was a dynamic type, these tend to go bye bye.
it's always a good idea to store your backup on a removable drive, not a
drive installed in the pc, for just this reason.

In the future - for your benefit as well as those who might answer your
queries - please utilize cross-posting as opposed to multi-posting if you
feel you need to post in more than one newsgroup.

Can try connecting the other HD to a different computer and see if the
partition is still there. I had a similiar problem with a newer HD, the
partitions would disappear, under computer management it would show the HD
wasn't even active anymore. I took the HD out and plugged into another PC
and the drive and partitions showed up active. I still have now clue whats
goin on with that drive, but was able to save the data to another drive
