I have been trying to streamline my start-up items and working thru
MSCONFIG, I see a couple of items that I cannot figure out! The two
items are as follows:
No "Startup Item" Name
No "Command" Site listed
- One has the following in "Location";
" HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run
- The other has;
"HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run
What are these items and can I safely uncheck them in MSCONFIG.
Any input/suggestions are appreciated.

I've never had either situation. Might some poorly functioning
registry cleaner have found that a program wasn't in your computer
anymore, at the listed address, and just erased the program name from
the registry entry, without removing the whole registry item that the
program had been listed in? Just a guess.
You can use regedit and navigate to those locations, and maybe you'll
see something interesting when you get there. That will help you
figure out what to do. But be sure not to change the registry. At
most, uncheck the things, maybe one at a time, and see if everything
still works.
If there really is no program at these locations, it probably doesn't
take long to run. Or use much RAM. (that is, none)
But, and this probably doesn't apply here, if there is a program that
is running, and you uncheck the box, and later you go into the program
preferences and change a setting so that it doesn't start until you
start it, and nothing starts at startup, it won't get rid of the line
in msconfig (if that matters to you.). There will still be an
unchecked box. OTOH, if you leave the box checked, and are able to
find something in the program preferences that will keep it from doing
anything at startup, setting that will get rid of the whole line.
Adobe Reader, and I think others, make this unnecessary start up
program sound good. Somewhere in preferences, it will have checked,
"Enable fast start" or something like that. Who wouldn't want fast
start? But it doesn't mention the price you pay. If you only use the
reader 1 out of ten sessions, you're starting part of it ten times
when you only use it once. That's no savings. You can wait until you
actually need it in a session and start the whole thing then.
At least that's the way Adobe worked in win98SE. But here, I can't
get Reader_sl (sl stands for speed launch) to go away, no matter what
I check or uncheck in adobe reader preferences. Although it only runs
for 2 or 3 seconds or less at startup so maybe it doesn't matter much.
Also, I couldn't find anything to make realsched go away entirely.
That's something in RealPlayer 11. Maybe it's the thing that checks
for updates??? And now I see I installed Nero and I have Nerocheck
checked in startup. I haven't looked yet how to get rid of that. I
use Nero less than once a month.
I also unchecked ctfmon, QTTask, Teatimer, and AdobeARM, and haven't
noticed any problems because of that, but maybe there's something I
missed, or that hasn't shown up yet.

Rather than using msconfig you should remove the start up items correctly;
ctfmon: usually from OfficeXp - Text/Speeech
Teatimer: SpyBot Search & Destroy - only configured if you selected the
option within S&D
QTtask: Apple Quick Time

Startup Item and Command columns are empty but the Location column
contains HKCU\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run?
If yes, this article will help you understand what it is/was and fix
it. HKLM is used in the example but the process is the same for HKCU:

If you care to backup your regsitry before making any changes, here is
a popular free tool to do so:

Nothing in msconfig should defy explanation, so if there are more
questions, holler.
