Default Getting rid of Dual Boot Menu

I have googled to try to resolve this issue and nothing seems to apply to
my situation. I used MaxBlast to copy files to a larger drive to replace my
old smaller one, something I have done several times in the past. This time
when I boot I think what I am getting is a dual boot menu that asks me to
select using the up and down arrows two choices both showing as "default"
Windows. If I select the bottom choice the system boots fine but if I expect
to boot using the above selection I get an error saying "windows could not
start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll. Please re-install a copy of the above
file."

I assume that if I learn the procedure of disabling the dual boot menu all
will be well but I am wondering how this is done and how I select the
correct choice if they are both referred to as "default" Windows. If I by
chance am presented with the wrong choice how do I "copy" the missing dll to
the proper location?

I hope there is a simple answer and someone can direct me on what to do.

Thanks for any helpful replies.

Regards.

Jake.

Click start/run
type in msconfig...hit enter
click the Boot.ini tab
click check all boot paths

You should have 2 paths listed..one of them is your problem one. This
procedure usually
finds the correct path and deletes the wrong path.
If this does not work you will need to edit the Boot.ini file manually. It is
located
in the Root directory of the C drive and can be opened with notepad.

Just run msconfig

go to the boot.ini tab

and "check all boot paths"

It should then ask you if you want to remove the invalid entry

This keeps getting worse. I try to run msconfig but it does not respond. I
found it here C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$ and tried to open it but
it still does not run. Any suggestions?

Thanks for responding Philo but as I indicated to Peter for some reason
that application does not respond.

I found it but it still won't run. I have decided to place my original drive
back and try again using a different copy utility. Something other than
MaxBlast this time. Google shows others have the same problem with that
application.

All is well. I used Seagate Disc Utility which worked flawlessly. It seems
MaxBlast failed totally this time. Thanks to everyone for responding.
