Default Card reader shutdown

I have a Sony Vaio running Windows XP. My card readers have worked without
problem for several years. It now seems that when I connect a card reader,
the system crashes when i try to select the folder containing images in
windows explorer.
It will also crash when I click on the memory stick drive with no media
inserted.

Any thoughts?

GH,

Is this error WINDOWS - NO DISK or similar with an ABORT | CANCEL | CONTUNIE
buttons?

Had the above many times & found it was McCrappy Antivirius scanning the
drive letters when no media is inserted

Just for a test, try disabling on-access scanning to see if the problem goes
away. Don't forget to re-enable the antivirus again

Also, I have notices that XP/Vista & Windows 7 don't seem to like the High
Speed SD cards which also crash explorer...
