Default Crashing and failure to boot

Hello!

Firstly, let me just apologise in advance and say that I'm a total
newbie. I've looked around the net to try and find a way out of my
problem, but I don't understand most of the solutions! I don't use my
laptop for much beyond regular typing, so the hard drive isn't under
stress, and as far as I know it doesn't have any viruses - I run checks
at least once a week, as well as CCleaner.

But recently, my laptop has been crashing a lot. It usually happens
when I leave it on Sleep - I'll come back in half an hour and find the
lapotop has shut down. When I restart it says that "Windows has
recovered from an unexpected shut down". All the Problem Reports are
the same, they look like this:

Problem signature
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.6
Locale ID: 2057

Files that help describe the problem (some files may no longer be
available)
Mini032309-01.dmp
sysdata.xml
Version.txt

View a temporary copy of these files
Warning: If a virus or other security threat caused the problem,
opening a copy of the files could harm your computer.

Extra information about the problem
BCCode: fe
BCP1: 00000008
BCP2: 00000006
BCP3: 00000005
BCP4: 87C15000
OS Version: 6_0_6001
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 256_1

At the same time, there's another problem, which is becoming
increasingly common. Sometimes when I restart the computer, it fails to
boot. It reaches the screen with the loading bar, and then stays there
permanently, before the Windows logo appears. I've left it for over an
hour at times, but nothing happens – my only solution is to hold down
the button and manually restart it. However, it's temperamental:
sometimes it freezes like that, sometimes it starts with no problem,
sometimes I have to manually restart several times, sometimes once does
the trick. Today it refused to boot normally no matter how many times I
tried, however it DID work in Safe Mode - which gave me a chance to back
up all my files!

Any advice for what could be causing the problem would be appreciated,
I'm really stuck!

Thank you,

Grace

Almost certainly it's a hardware problem. It could be the hard drive, RAM,
the motherboard, ...

Sorry I can't be more explicit, but I really can't narrow it down.
Diagnostic software run from a CD is the best bet. Or if it's new, the
manufacturer's warranty...

If its ok in safe mode, I would start Windows Update, from IE tools, review
the update history and if any driver updates are shown, make a note of what
driver, then in device manager locate that driver/hardware and roll back the
driver
Also ensure win auto update is NOT set to download/install driver updates

You obtain drivers from your Laptop makers site, NOT winupdate
And then only if required to cure a problem or give enhanced useability

Bcc code 7e on the blue screen dump file tells the following story below
Hotfix is available for this issue. Read the MS KB below
0x000000FE: BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER
Usually indicates a USB driver problem. Makes sure, though, that you have the latest
Windows service pack installed.
