Default Bootloader Timeout

What should be the correct/feasable setting for timeout in the boot loader?
That is for WinVista Home Premium, SP1, 32 bit.
Mine is set at 60 seconds.

Harry.

Hi,

The norm is 3 unless you are using a multiboot and need more time to select
the proper entry.

Harry.
The default seen with any new installation of XP, Vista, and now 7 beta
builds is 30 seconds. The boot tab in the msconfig utility and a few 3rd
party boot editors can be used to change that to the higher display time
for the boot options screen or lower it down even under 5 seconds.
Without any dual or multiple boot setup however the boot options screen
is not displayed at Windows startup.

When trying to change the setting to anything lower, it keeps resetting
itself to 60 sec's.
IOW my 'Vista' doesn't want to be messed with!

Hi,

Are you multibooting? That line is ignored if you're not.

Ooops, when I used 30 and 10 sec's it reset itself, but inserting 5sec's it
stuck.
Thought to let you know.

Finally I've figured it out:
My default setting is at 60 sec's. and if I change it, the startup will
change with it from 'normal' to 'selective'. If that is speeding the
procedure up, it seems hardly noticable.
