Default Back up and restore

Hi I am using windows vista premium on my laptop.
Is it possible to make an image backup with this operating system?
Also if a file backup completes successfully and is backed up on a
network
drive will I be able to restore from a new install of window vista
premium
on the same laptop that was backed up to the network drive? Is there a
better way using vista premium? I have Norton Ghost 12.0 on my desktop
but
not on the laptop with vista premium. Don't what to have to buy a
license
for laptop if there is another way to make sure in case of a failure
of the
operating system that I could recover by an full backup or image ? I do
some
beta testing and do not want to spend hours re-loading software! I do
not
have a recovery partition on my laptop! If anyone has some information
that
would give me a clue if what I am doing will work or not please type
and let
me know? Thank you in advance!

Hi James,

I don't know about your license for Norton Ghost, but you may find the
free version of this will do what you want.

'Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download'

Hope it helps

SIW2,
Have you used this program before? Is there any information available
that would tell me about it before using? Thank you for suggestion. I am
downloading and hope to use if I can feel comfortable about it? Your help is
much appreciated!

Hi Jim,

Looks like you found what you need. I use Macrium all the time.

FYI, there are some tutorials on the Paramount site:

Sorry to report: Downloaded and installed Macrium Reflect software.
Installed great, backed up partition for windows vista operating system on
my dual boot Dell inspiron 1721 Laptop, tried using lenix cd to go into
recovery environment and computer hung with frozen mouse at restore screen?
Lost patience after using for backup image, verifying and then creating disk
to flop as it did? Not sure it's worth the aggravation it has already
created? Just about to buy Ghost license again? I thank you for trying to
give me help!!

Hi James,

Sorry to hear it.

Odd, I haven't come across that before.

Before buying another Ghost license, it might be worth booting your
existing Ghost cd to make sure it works with your mouse.

Hope it helps

Speaking of that... does Ghost 12 come on a bootable CD? Or does it
have the capability of making one that has its program on it?

Mike,
Ghost 12.0 comes with system one recovery CD and application one install
CD (2 CD's Total) which allows you to create a new recovery cd! Can I use
that to recover image created by macrium reflect? Thanks to all for replying
with info and concern!
